An element painted by Brazilian and German schoolchildren together in Berlin, then flown to São Paulo state — the only record here made by children.
An element stands at the Banda Lyra Mogimiriana music school in Mogi Mirim, in the state of São Paulo. It got there through a children's project rather than a government or a collector. The Berlin association MyTheo e. V., founded by Sylvia Hahnisch around a cartoon character called Theo Tintenklecks, had been running exchanges between the school and the Niederheide primary school in Hohen Neuendorf since 2011, including video lessons between the two classrooms.
In 2015 the association started a wall project under its programme Die Erde mein Zuhause — the earth my home — in which children and artists in different countries painted parts of the Wall as a statement about a shared future. Michael Schleusener of Berlin coordinated it, flying to Mogi Mirim with a small delegation to paint a miniature wall as a start; that September a party of ten Brazilians travelled to Berlin, where pupils of both schools painted one side of a real element together.
It is, as far as this catalogue records, the only segment anywhere whose surface was decided by eleven-year-olds from two continents.
How did it get here?
Organised by MyTheo e. V. of Berlin under its Die Erde mein Zuhause programme, coordinated by Michael Schleusener, and painted jointly by pupils of the Mogi Mirim music school and the Niederheide primary school in Hohen Neuendorf in September 2015.
