A German gift to Canada that stood for years in the building where the Two Plus Four framework was agreed in 1990.
A segment on permanent display among the museum's Cold War collection. Its earlier address is the interesting part: for years it stood in the Government Conference Centre in downtown Ottawa, the building that hosted the 1990 international meeting at which the framework for peaceful German reunification was settled. The object spent its Canadian life in the room where the diplomacy happened, and was then moved to a museum — a rare case in this catalogue of a segment that was, for a while, sited on the strength of what was decided there rather than what it had been.
How did it get here?
A gift from the German government to the Canadian people. Transferred to the Canadian War Museum in 2009, when the move was announced by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
