The museum's subject is the Russian Mennonites who left the Soviet Union for Canada, which makes the object less incongruous than it first appears: the community that built this museum had its own experience of a state deciding who could leave, decades before the Wall was poured.

Bought in Germany after the Wall came down by Martin Bergen of Winnipeg, and donated to the museum.
