The North Rhine-Westphalia segment from the Axel Springer distribution, on the meadow between the Landtag and the House of History.
A segment stands on the green between the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia and the Haus der Geschichte, with the city gate in view. Two large information boards were added in 2023 explaining the division and the Wall.
It belongs to the distribution this catalogue has been tracking: for the twentieth anniversary in 2009 Axel Springer AG gave an original element to every German federal state. The full figure is larger than the sixteen states — the company acquired and gave away 33 elements in all, to states and to cities. Stuttgart and Hamburg hold two more of them, and Kiel almost certainly holds a fourth.
A political monthly, writing in March 2010, placed the piece prominently in front of the Landtag and noted the plaque with the Bild logo and the criticism the campaign drew from the Greens in Lower Saxony, who thought a publisher's advertisement a poor memorial to the autumn of 1989.
