A segment the Berlin Senate gave the town in 2014, kept three years in the council works yard, and set in 2017 beside the stele for a woman shot at the border in 1980.
Hohen Neuendorf sits on the outer ring of the border, north-west of Berlin, and the strip ran through what is now Florastraße. Two memorial steles already stood there for people killed trying to cross from the town into West Berlin, among them Marienetta Jirkowsky, who was shot by border soldiers during an escape attempt in 1980 and died of her injuries.
The Berlin Senate Chancellery gave the town an original segment in 2014. It then spent three years in the council works yard — which is its own small record of how these objects actually move — before the town put it up on 1 September 2017 on municipal land in Florastraße, beside the steles, with a path of historic stone paving laid from the pavement to reach it. The town had acquired the ground, once part of the border strip, expressly to be able to commemorate the border there later.
In July 2026 a nature park and memorial site were opened on the former wall corridor at Florastraße, taking in the segment and the steles.
