A segment stands in the garden of the Goethe-Institut, where it was set up in 2015 as a sign of freedom gained together. It got there by being rejected somewhere else: it was first erected in 2012 at a spa in Lagadas, through a partnership with the Berlin districts of Steglitz and Zehlendorf, and the Lagadas authorities then concluded that the monument had no thematic connection to their town and dismantled it. The move to Thessaloniki was agreed between a Berlin ministry, the Greek Ministry of the Interior and the Goethe-Institut. Very few records in this catalogue document a recipient deciding the object did not belong to them.
How did it get here?
Erected at Lagadas in 2012 via a partnership with Steglitz-Zehlendorf, dismantled by the local authority, and re-erected at the Goethe-Institut in Thessaloniki in 2015.
