Two 2.5 tonne segments in the lower garden of a seventeenth-century castle, among its contemporary sculpture collection.
Two segments, each 3.6 m by 1.2 m and weighing about 2.5 tonnes, were installed in March 2015 in the lower garden at Lismore Castle, among a permanent collection of contemporary sculpture with the Blackwater valley behind. Setting border fortification inside seventeenth-century defensive walls, as sculpture, is a particular kind of curatorial nerve.
How did it get here?
Acquired by the castle's custodians, Lord and Lady Burlington, who travelled to Germany the year before the installation.
