A small segment given to the German school in 2016, after years in the hands of a Japanese menswear retailer.
The school is the German School Tokyo Yokohama, and the donation was made on 18 May 2016. Its previous owner was Aoki Holdings, a Japanese clothing retailer — one of several records in this catalogue where a segment spent years in corporate hands before reaching an institution that would show it.
The local paper Town News reported the ceremony on 26 May 2016. AOKI's vice-chairman handed over a section the company had bought and kept since the Wall fell, hoping it would be a sign of friendship, before diplomatic representatives of Germany, Austria and Switzerland; the day, 18 May, was chosen for its place in German history.
