Two segments under the canopy of the Dutch national military museum — one given by Germany after 1989, one sailed back from Berlin in 2014.
Two original segments stand under the canopy of the Nationaal Militair Museum, on the former air base at Soesterberg. Each is nearly four metres tall and weighs more than 2,500 kilograms, and one of them is covered in graffiti.
They arrived twenty-five years apart. The first came to the Legermuseum, the army museum the NMM replaced, soon after the Wall came down, when the German government was handing out pieces. The second came in 2014, when the Stichting Muurbrekers sailed historic boats to Berlin and brought four sections of the Wall back to the Netherlands by water.
The museum does not say which of the two is which, or where in Berlin either stood.
How did it get here?
One segment given by the German government to the Legermuseum after 1989 and inherited by the Nationaal Militair Museum; the second brought from Berlin by the Stichting Muurbrekers in 2014.
