Unveiled in 2009 for the twentieth anniversary, given by a Brandenburg district. Its chairman asked the public not to read it as an argument about unification with China.
A segment was unveiled in the foundation's garden in November 2009, for the twentieth anniversary of the opening. At the ceremony the Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng, the foundation's chairman, described the fall of the Wall as opening the “third wave” of democratisation — and then asked the public to refrain from reading the segment as an argument about unification with China. That caveat is the most interesting thing about the record: a recipient publicly fencing off an interpretation the object invites.
How did it get here?
Donated by the district government of Oberhavel in Brandenburg, and accepted on 20 July 2009 by Taiwan's representative to Germany, Wei Wu-lien, who arranged the shipment.
