A slab rests behind the bookstore on the Honolulu Community College campus, both faces visible. It is the most remote record in the catalogue from Berlin — about 11,700 km — and among the least announced: the lead that documents it describes the slab as resting there secretly, which is less a claim about concealment than about how little a segment needs to be explained to stay where it is.
The college's own account calls it the Berlin Wall Freedom Monument and puts it behind Building 2 on Dillingham Boulevard, a three-ton piece given by the Berlin Senate and brought by students under the history professor Rick Ziegler; the bookstore is the lead's landmark, the college's is the building.
