A twelve-foot section at the corner of Baker Hall, placed to mark James Baker's part in negotiating German reunification.
A twelve-foot section stands at the south-east corner of Baker Hall, installed in 2000 and unveiled by Rice's president Malcolm Gillis with Jürgen Chrobog, the German ambassador to the United States. It is there to mark James A. Baker III's part as secretary of state in the diplomacy of 1989 and the negotiations that unified Germany — a monument less to the Wall than to the people who arranged what followed it.
How did it get here?
Installed by Rice University in 2000, eleven years after the Wall opened.
