Two slabs on a factory lawn beside a South Carolina interstate, shipped over in 1991 hidden in a consignment of machinery.
Two slabs more than twelve feet tall, marked with green and blue graffiti, stand on the front lawn of Menzel Inc., the oldest foreign-owned manufacturing company in South Carolina. The company added two flagpoles flying the German and American flags, and two plaques carrying quotations from John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. They are easily visible from Business Interstate 85, which makes this one of the most-seen and least-visited records in the catalogue.
How did it get here?
Sent to the Spartanburg plant in 1991 with the help of a partner company in Germany, carried over in a shipment of machinery.
