The element is at the corner of Karl-Marx-Straße and Benschallee. The Berlin Wall Foundation catalogues it as MAU-710, photographed in 2019.
The line it marks is the outer ring. Of the 155 kilometres of border around West Berlin, roughly 43 cut through the city itself and the rest ran through fields and suburbs like this one — the part that was neither photographed nor sold, and which almost nothing in this catalogue represents.
An element put back on the boundary is a different kind of object from one shipped to Ohio. It is not quite in its original position — this catalogue keeps that distinction carefully — but it is on the right line, which is more than almost any other relocated segment can say.
