On 3 October 2012 a segment of the Wall was unveiled in a new Sister Cities Square (Plateia Adelfopoiiseon) in the spa district of Lagadas, a gift from the Berlin district of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, with which the Lagadas municipality had become twinned. Aftodioikisi, a Greek local-government news portal, reported the announcement the day before and described it as a symbol of the fall of the lines that divide nations and peoples; the mayor spoke of building bridges of cooperation and reconciliation.
It did not last. The Thessaloniki magazine Parallaxi reported in 2018 that three years later, during a redesign of the square, the municipality decided the piece did not fit the history, architecture and look of the spa town. After talks with the German consulate it was moved to the garden of the Goethe-Institut in Thessaloniki, where it now stands; that site has its own page in this atlas.
