An original element stands at the entrance to the Janco Dada Museum, brought to Ein Hod in 1992. The layering here is unusual even for this catalogue. The village was founded in 1953 by Marcel Janco, one of the founders of Dada, who had fled Bucharest for Mandate Palestine in 1941; the museum, opened in 1983, holds his work and Dada more widely. A piece of the Berlin Wall at the door of a Dada museum would be a joke the movement would have appreciated — except that it also carries a metal plate placed by its donor for his mother and two sisters, who died in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943. One object, three separate European catastrophes.

Acquired and donated by Zeev Yalon, a member of the museum's board of trustees, who attached the memorial plate.
