A fragment stands at the Revolution Memorial, the foundation established on 26 April 1990 to document the December 1989 rising that began in Timișoara and ended the Ceaușescu regime. The placement makes a claim about sequence: the Wall opened on 9 November 1989 and Timișoara rose five weeks later, and the memorial sets the German object in its courtyard, beside a collection about the Romanian dead. Of all the recipients in this catalogue, this is the one whose own revolution came closest in time.

The piece came late. The memorial asked Berlin for it in 2012; it arrived by special lorry in December that year, two and a half tonnes of it, and was shown to the public on 20 December 2012, at the opening of a photographic exhibition. Local business people and the Rotary Club of Timișoara paid for the transport.

Wie kam es hierher?

A gift from the city of Berlin, which the memorial requested in 2012; local business people and the Rotary Club of Timișoara paid for its transport.
