The Army's own report on the closing of the Signal Corps Museum, published on army.mil on 4 March 2021, says the museum had been on Chamberlain Avenue at Fort Gordon since 1998 and housed "an original piece of the Berlin Wall, standing at about 8 feet tall"; a photograph caption quotes the German Armed Forces liaison officer, Lt. Col. Sascha Blankenburg, calling it a "symbol of unity". The museum closed temporarily on 25 February 2021 ahead of a planned move.

A second report, of 20 May 2021, lists "a large piece of the Berlin Wall" among the irreplaceable artefacts being packed, most of which the Army sent to a museum in Anniston, Alabama for temporary storage while a few stayed on post. It does not say which the Wall piece was.

The post, renamed Fort Eisenhower in 2023, has a second record in this catalogue, the two sections and a sign in Freedom Park. Whether they are the museum's piece or a different one is not established here; the Army speaks of one piece, The Wall Net of two segments in the museum. The Augusta listing was pinned in the middle of the city, 17 km from the post. The pin now marks the former museum building on the post: where a source last placed the piece, not where it is.
