A second Seattle section stands on the corner of North 34th Street and Troll Avenue in Fremont, a short way down the slope from the Fremont Troll and beside Cafe Turko and Milstead & Co. It is twelve feet high and four feet wide. The Seattle Times reports that it arrived in 2001 as a gift to Boeing, in remembrance of the company’s part in the 1948 Berlin Airlift, and that it was officially dedicated in Fremont on 15 June 2001.
Boeing donated it to History House, a now-closed nonprofit in Fremont, where it stood outside until 2016, when the building was razed for what is now the Data 1 Building. During construction it rested on the sidewalk outside Cafe Turko, and in 2017 it was resettled on the corner, in front of the new building. The record used to place it at History House itself, which is where the inventory listed it; the museum is a small one about the city’s neighbourhoods rather than about the Cold War. Seattle is one of a handful of cities in this catalogue holding more than one documented section.
Wie kam es hierher?
