The record

A gift from the Berlin Senate to Marseille's museum of Mediterranean civilisations, with no word from the museum on whether it is shown.

The Mucem holds a section of the Wall. The museum's own question-and-answer page, written by the curator Frédéric Mougenot, asks what a piece of the Berlin Wall is doing in its collections, and answers that the section was donated to the Mucem by the Senate of the City of Berlin. It belongs to the third phase of the Wall, the Grenzmauer 75 decided in 1974, built of prefabricated blocks 3.6 metres high with an integrated base 1.2 metres wide, and on its west face artists painted works of protest against the restriction of freedom of movement. The page places the gift in the wider story of the divided city but does not say where in Berlin the section stood, when it was given, or whether it is on show. Another page of the museum says its collections are kept in the Conservation and Resource Centre, which can be visited on a tour once a month by reservation.

Wikipedia's list says it is on display in the Gallery of the Mediterranean. Nothing the museum says in the passages read here confirms that, so the record does not claim it.

How did it get here?

Donated to the Mucem by the Senate of the City of Berlin; the year is not given.
