The record
A section of the Wall that the garrison commander had set up at the Blücher-Kaserne in 1990, now in the town's Friedenspark since its renovation in 2022.
The town of Hemer's page on the Friedenspark, which it thoroughly renovated in 2022 with a new inclusive playground costing about 220,000 euros and a six-lane disc golf course, lists among the park's features a section of the Berlin Wall that was brought to the then Blücher-Kaserne in 1990. The commander of Panzerbataillon 203 and barracks commandant, Oberstleutnant Gero Herrlinger, had it set up there; the barracks are now the Sauerlandpark. The page adds the usual sentence on the Wall as the border that cut West Berlin off from 1961 and fell on 9 November 1989.
The Wall Net, a general reference, says the segment passed to the town in 2004 when the Bundeswehr gave up the garrison, and that it has stood in the park since 2022 as a reminder.
How did it get here?
