Four double-sided segments stand at the entrance to the Ironside design district in Miami's Upper Eastside, repainted by Thierry Noir during Art Basel in 2013. They are outdoors, not behind glass and not labelled as museum objects. Noir was among the first artists to paint the Wall while it stood, in 1984; repainting original elements decades later, in another country, on commission, makes this one of the clearer cases in the catalogue of the Wall's surface being treated as a living medium rather than as evidence.
How did it get here?
Held in the Ironside public art collection, and previously shown temporarily elsewhere in Miami.
