The town of Selb's own walking-tour brochure, "Roter Faden", lists the segment at its second station, the Platz der Erinnerung, among objects recalling events of recent history, beside a granite column titled "1989 – Das Jahr des Volkes". It shows a man in uniform jumping over barbed wire, a reminder of the border policeman Conrad Schumann's leap to freedom on 15 August 1961 at the corner of Bernauer and Ruppiner Straße in Berlin, and was painted by the Berlin artist Jakob Wagner. The brochure says the piece came originally from the Freedom Park at Checkpoint Charlie, was set up in the Bürgerpark in 2013 for the Grenzland-Filmtage, and moved to its present place in 2019.

The Wall Net, writing in 2018, ties it to the festival's 2013 screening of the documentary "Up to the border" by Gerald Grote and Claus Oppermann and says the names of the audience-award winners were to be engraved on a plaque on its back. The former Bürgerpark is now being built over: the town's newsletter reported that construction began there in July 2025.

The brochure does not give the square's street, so the position is shown at town level; whether the prize-winners' plaque continued after the move is not known.

Wie kam es hierher?

Originally in the Freedom Park at Checkpoint Charlie, painted by Jakob Wagner, brought to Selb for the 2013 Grenzland-Filmtage and moved from the Bürgerpark to the Platz der Erinnerung in 2019.
