Pieces of the Wall have stood in Daejeon's Expo Science Park since the city held the 1993 World Expo. Chungcheong Today, in May 2018, says the city received them from the German government as a gift at the Expo, with the hope of Korean reunification in mind, and that they stand in the Expo Science Park, scrawled with decades of graffiti and with reinforcing steel showing. Officials told the paper that cleaning off the graffiti risked damaging the concrete. The Daejeon Marketing Corporation, the city's agency for the Expo site, managed the park without the means to care for the pieces, and few residents knew they were there.

The Daejeon Ilbo returned to it in February 2020 and counted seven concrete blocks, standing behind metal fencing with a small information board in front of the Daejeon Expo Memorial Hall, with no plan to preserve them or to use them for culture or tourism. The Berlin Wall Archive's listing gives six. In May 2022 the Geumgang Ilbo placed the piece inside the park's Unification Hall, saying it had been moved to its present indoor place after years outdoors had left it weathered and vandalised. The reports therefore disagree about the count and about whether the pieces stand inside or outside, and the most recent is not necessarily the right one; the page rests on press accounts, and no holder's page has been found.

Wie kam es hierher?
