Two segments of the Berlin Wall stand on the grounds of the National Institute for Unification Education in Seoul, the South Korean state body that trains teachers and officials in the question of reunification. Of the four sites recorded in this catalogue in and around Seoul, it is the one whose purpose is nearest to the object's own.
The Federal Foundation's entry for the site is a placeholder that records the two segments without saying where they came from. Korean press reports on the institute's first full public opening, in May 2025, fill the gap: the two concrete blocks had stood at Potsdamer Platz since 2015, shown beside a pavilion called Tongiljeong, the Unification Pavilion, which the Korean Cultural Centre in Germany put up there. The Berlin authorities ended the permit at the end of 2020, the blocks were shipped to Korea, and they were set up on the institute's lawn in February 2021. Who first gave them to the cultural centre, and from which stretch of the Wall they came, the reports do not say.
The record is published because the identification is settled. It had been held back as one of a group of Seoul records that could not be told apart — a city with at least four sites and several records carrying nothing but the city name — and the Foundation's own entry for this listing names the institute.
