Madrid holds two documented sites and they are easy to conflate. This one is a section at the Spanish air and space museum; the better known is the trio of segments in the pond at the Parque de Berlín in Chamartín, unveiled on the first anniversary in 1990, which is a separate record about 12 km north-east of here.

The two also arrived nearly thirty years apart. This section is one of the slabs the Berlin artist Patrice Lux has painted and passed on to institutions around the world. Lux gave it to the ILA air show in Berlin in April 2018, and in May the show presented it to the Patrulla Águila, the Spanish Air Force's aerobatic team, after its display there; the museum made it its featured piece for the first quarter of 2020. The front carries an inverted S that turns from the colours of the Berlin flag into those of Spain, between the Berlin bear and the badge of the Patrulla Águila, with the ILA 2018 logo in a painted sky.

Wie kam es hierher?

Painted by the Berlin artist Patrice Lux, who gave it to the ILA air show in Berlin in April 2018; in May 2018 the show presented it to the Spanish Air Force's Patrulla Águila aerobatic team, and it passed to the museum.
