A 2.5 tonne segment painted by Thierry Noir for Plovdiv, carrying a message he wrote to future generations.
A fragment 3.6 m high and weighing 2.5 tonnes, painted by the French artist Thierry Noir, was unveiled in front of Exhibition Hall 2019 on Gladstone Street on 19 December 2019 — as Plovdiv's year as European Capital of Culture closed, and in the thirtieth anniversary year of the opening. It carries a message Noir wrote for the city: “A message to future generations – let us not repeat the mistakes of the past.” It was intended as the basis for a monument to the freedom of the new Europe. Noir painted the Wall while it stood; this is one of the few segments he painted after it fell, for a specific recipient.
How did it get here?
Unveiled in the presence of the former president Petar Stoyanov, the mayor of Plovdiv Zdravko Dimitrov, and the German ambassador Christoph Eichhorn.
