A Potsdamer Platz element in the gardens of Verdun's episcopal palace, given by Berlin and unveiled in 2014.
An element 3.65 m high and 1.2 m wide stands in the eighteenth-century gardens of the episcopal palace at Verdun, which houses the Centre Mondial de la Paix. It was inaugurated on 17 March 2014 and the garden path is free to walk. Verdun is the site of the longest battle of the First World War and the place where Mitterrand and Kohl held hands in 1984; putting a piece of the German border there makes the segment an argument about Franco-German reconciliation rather than about communism, which is a reading almost no other record in this catalogue offers.
How did it get here?
A gift from the city of Berlin. In November 1989 the element stood at Potsdamer Platz.
