The record

A segment that stood at the former Hauptschule from 1999 and was moved by the town of Warendorf to the green behind the Petrikapelle in 2015.

Die Glocke reported on 1 July 2015 that the original piece of the Berlin Wall which had stood on the grounds of the former Freckenhorst Hauptschule had been moved that week with a wheel loader from the firm Nüßing. A crane had failed at the first attempt the week before: the piece weighs more than 1.5 tonnes, being heavily reinforced with iron. Helmut Helmich righted it, loaded it onto the forks and clamped it, and Josef Tertilt of the town of Warendorf's green-space team escorted it along the Nordfeld and the Westkirchener Straße and over the cobbles of the Stiftsbleiche to the chapel, where the town's staff had laid a base of grey basalt over six square metres on a gravel foundation. The paper calls it the memorial that recalls Germany's division, and the chairwoman of the Heimatverein, Wilma Richter, was content with a place in the heart of the old abbey town.

The Wall Net, a general reference, explains how it came: after the fall of the Wall, Freckenhorst Social Democrats made contact with the SPD in Templin in Brandenburg, and through that link a segment reached the town; it stood at the Hauptschule from 1999. It dates the move to 2016 where the newspaper has 2015.

How did it get here?

Obtained through contacts between Freckenhorst Social Democrats and the SPD in Templin, by The Wall Net's account; at the Hauptschule from 1999; moved by the town of Warendorf to the Petrikapelle in the week reported on 1 July 2015.
