The record

Two segments painted by the Lüdinghausen artist Alfred Gockel, shown first in Athens and since 2020 a memorial in his own town, kept by a local association for justice and peace.

Two original segments of the Berlin Wall make up the memorial that the Arbeitsstelle Gerechtigkeit und Frieden, a Lüdinghausen association for justice and peace, describes on what it now calls the Ruth-Weiss-Platz. By the association's account the pieces stood first in Athens, were painted by the artist Alfred Gockel, and have stood in Lüdinghausen since the memorial was inaugurated in 2020. Beside them is a KreativWand, a panel developed with Gockel and pupils of the Richard-von-Weizsäcker-Berufskolleg as a place for changing messages about the walls in people's heads.

The Wall Net fills in the route. The segments were bought in 2007 from the stock of Baumedia GmbH in Lünen, lent to the German embassy in Athens from 2010 to 2015, and brought back by Gockel when the embassy no longer had room for them; the association then bought them and, with the town, its citizens' foundation and local firms, put up the memorial in front of the police station on the Seppenrader Straße in October 2020.

In 2026 the square is being rebuilt and the memorial given a new subject. Pupils of the Canisianum have made a large stencil portrait of Ruth Weiss — the Jewish journalist and opponent of apartheid who lived in Lüdinghausen for many years and died in 2025 — with her appeal BE HUMAN, to be set into the KreativWand once the work on the square is finished.
