The record

Two original segments brought to the village green after 1989 on the village mayor's initiative, where the state of Brandenburg held its commemoration of the Wall's building in 2024.

Heinersdorf lay hard against the border ring around West Berlin, and its neighbour Osdorf fell to the Wall in the most literal sense: the village of about 150 people was demolished for the border strip, only a barn survived, and its people were resettled, partly in Heinersdorf. Two original pieces of the Wall now stand in the centre of Heinersdorf by the village green, carrying several memorial plaques. The Wall Net, quoting the municipality, says they were brought here after the Wende at the instigation of the village mayor of the time and so saved from destruction.

The municipality lays wreaths at them each 13 August. Its account of the sixtieth anniversary in 2021 has the mayor, Tobias Borstel, saying it is right to meet every year at this piece of wall in Heinersdorf, which once stood in Osdorf. On 13 August 2024 the state of Brandenburg held its central commemoration of the building of the Wall here, at the segments at Heinersdorfer Straße 8: the minister-president, Dietmar Woidke, the president of the Landtag, Ulrike Liedtke, the deputy commissioner for the consequences of the communist dictatorship, Susanne Kschenka, the mayor and the witness Michael Valentin spoke, and the state chancellery's release recalled that at least 140 people died at the Berlin Wall. A second original piece stands a short way north on the Berlin boundary at Osdorfer Straße, re-erected in April 2010, and has its own page.

How did it get here?
