The record
A three-tonne segment painted on one side by a class of the school and its Brazilian partners in 2015 and shipped to the partner music school in Mogi Mirim in April 2016.
The segment that the Berlin Wall Archive lists at an elementary school in Hohen Neuendorf no longer stands there, and it was never a memorial. The town's news of 27 April 2016 explains: seven months earlier, pupils of class 5a of the Grundschule Niederheide had painted one side of an original piece of the Wall, and on 22 April 2016 they sent it on its way to Brazil, where children of their partner music school, the Banda Lyra in Mogi Mirim in the state of São Paulo, were to receive it and paint the other side. The project belonged to „Die Erde mein Zuhause“, a global e-learning programme built around the children's character Theo Tintenklecks, in which the two schools held joint lessons by video link; the pupils questioned a Hamburg logistics firm about the route and learned that the three-tonne piece would take about seventeen days by container ship from Hamburg via Antwerp to São Paulo.
The Federal Foundation's entry for Mogi Mirim fills in the rest: the Berlin association MyTheo e.V. and its founder, Sylvia Hahnisch, began the wall project in 2015; a Brazilian group of ten came to Berlin in September 2015 and painted one side of a real wall piece with the partner school in Hohen Neuendorf; the segment arrived in Mogi Mirim in May 2016, and that town's record in this catalogue follows the piece from there. The Wall Net says it came from Bornholmer Straße.
