A section stands on the central median of the Place de la Porte de Versailles. The square was named the Esplanade du 9-Novembre-1989 by order of the Paris city council on 18 January 2007 — the name came first, and the object arrived two years later, which is the reverse of the usual sequence in this catalogue. It was inaugurated in 2009 for the twentieth anniversary by the mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, and the governing mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit.
The arrondissement's town hall confirms that the section is still the focus of its commemoration each 9 November. The Foundation's entry differs from the Wikipedia account on two points: it gives the segment's origin as the Senate's remaining stock at Berlin-Marzahn rather than Potsdamer Platz, and the inauguration as 9 November 2009 rather than 29 June.
Wie kam es hierher?
Supplied by the Berlin Senate for the twentieth anniversary of the opening; recorded as from Potsdamer Platz by one account and from the Senate's stock at Berlin-Marzahn by the Foundation.
