A section of the Berlin Wall stands in the exhibition hall of the Qatar National Convention Centre in Education City, carrying a design by Thierry Noir completed in 2007 — long after the Wall came down, so this is Noir painting a piece of it again rather than a survival of his 1980s work on the west face. That is Qatar Museums' account: one section, given by the German embassy in 2017 as part of the Qatar–Germany Year of Culture, together with a second, original panel that now stands in the atrium of Georgetown University in Qatar under a kilometre away.
The Federal Foundation counts two segments here, not one, and gives them a longer story. Both were among the fifteen painted in 2007 by pupils of the Carl-Zeiss-Oberschule in Berlin-Lichtenrade under Noir's direction, in the Kreuzberg yard of the builders' merchant Dämmisol, and each carries a large eye. The German foreign ministry bought them from Veloform, which had taken six of the pupils' segments when Dämmisol gave up the site in 2008, after Sheikha Al-Mayassa, chair of the Qatar Museums Authority, had asked the foreign minister Sigmar Gabriel for pieces of the Wall during his visit to Doha in July 2017. Gabriel handed them over symbolically in Berlin that November, and they were installed in the entrance hall of the convention centre's extension and inaugurated in June 2019. Qatar understands them, the Foundation notes, as a statement against the blockade imposed on the emirate by several neighbouring states in 2017 and lifted at the beginning of 2021. Both counts are kept.
The Foundation publishes one text, covering both Education City sites, on each of its two Doha entries. The second entry is pinned within two hundred metres of the convention centre and is the listing carried on this page; the first, pinned at the Georgetown atrium, is carried there.
