The record

Shipped to Australia in the early 1990s and then forgotten in a Blacktown warehouse for seventeen years. Its graffiti reads Jeder hat Kraft — everyone is powerful.

A slab of concrete and steel almost four metres tall and weighing 2.4 tonnes stands outside the Goethe-Institut in Woollahra, its original graffiti reading “Jeder hat Kraft” — everyone is powerful. It was inaugurated on 23 November 2019 for the thirtieth anniversary. The interesting part is the gap: it reached Australia in the early 1990s and then sat in a warehouse in Blacktown for about seventeen years before anyone put it anywhere. Most records in this catalogue describe an object that was wanted; this one describes an object that was imported and then mislaid.

How did it get here?

Shipped to Australia in the early 1990s by the German-Australian businessman Peter Kubiak, and stored in western Sydney until it was installed in 2019.
