The record

A segment the Museum am Checkpoint Charlie gave the painter Siegfried Rischar in 1991, painted with a rose in 2009 and given to the city by his children in 2017.

The Aschaffenburg painter Siegfried Rischar (1924–2009) lived and worked until his death in the studio house on Grünewaldstraße beside the Gentil-Haus, the city's museum of the collector Anton Gentil. The city archive's register of public art records that in 1991 the Museum am Checkpoint Charlie gave him a segment of the Wall, as thanks for his years of cooperation with the museum and his long connection with the city, and that it was set up in the yard of his studio. In 1986 he had entered a competition to overcome the Wall by design and won a third prize for a design called „der Rosengruß“, which was never carried out; in 2009 he painted a variant of it on the segment. The Wall Net describes the result as a rose blooming out of the barbed wire on the grey concrete.

After his death his children gave the work to the city in 2017, which the archive says had been his express wish. The Wall Net's entry gives a different account of the gift — the museum's founder, Rainer Hildebrandt, as donor, and 2009 for the heirs' transfer to the city — and the archive's register is followed here. The register files the address as Grünewaldstraße 2; a comment on the entry gives it as Grünewaldstraße 20a, the studio house, and the Wall Net places the piece in front of the studio on Grünewaldstraße. The studio has been used by the sculptor Konrad Franz since March 2012.
