The record
Three segments set up on 2 November 2009 outside the district administration's Bernau office, one of them painted by Thierry Noir for the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Wall.
The town's news of 4 November 2009 reports that on the Monday before, 2 November, three segments of the Berlin Wall were set up in front of the district administration's Bernau office at Jahnstraße 45, in the presence of the mayor, Hubert Handke, the member of the Bundestag Dagmar Enkelmann, town councillors and staff of the administration. They are to recall 9 November 1989 and to build a bridge between Berlin and Bernau. The town assembly had resolved the installation in May 2009, on a motion that began with the SPD group.
One of the three was painted by Thierry Noir with the head in profile whose style he made his own, in a project for the tenth anniversary of the fall of the Wall; the artist came to Bernau for the unveiling and met pupils of the Tobias-Seiler-Oberschule, its head Ottmar Nickel and the mayor at the town hall beforehand, telling them he had moved from France to West Berlin in 1982 and only thought of painting the Wall after living beside it. The Wall Net adds that the commission for that painting came from a firm involved in demolishing the border installations and long based in nearby Ladeburg, and that the memorial is meant to encourage future generations to take part in democracy.
