The record
A segment beside a border buoy and border posts outside the old parsonage of Büchen-Dorf, which houses the village's exhibition on the inner-German border.
The Priesterkate is the old parsonage of Büchen, finished in 1649 and the oldest listed farm building in the Duchy of Lauenburg. The church sold it to the municipality in 1987, and since 1991 it has been a cultural centre with a permanent exhibition on the history of the border around Büchen: an SM-70 spring-gun of the kind fitted to the border fence, a model of the Horst–Lauenburg crossing on the B 5, and panels on the case of Michael Gartenschläger, who was shot at the border near Büchen in 1976 while trying to dismantle one. In front of the house stand a border buoy from the Schaalsee, border posts and a segment of the Berlin Wall.
The Wall Net, quoting a text by Heinz Bohlmann, gives the segment's origin: it was put up in 1994 by Panzerbataillon 164 when the Panzergrenadierbrigade 16 stationed in the district was disbanded, the battalion having taken part in pulling down the Wall in 1990, and the former mayor Günter Mund, the retired lieutenant colonel Michael Güntner and Bohlmann himself had pressed for it. That account rests on the one general reference.
How did it get here?
According to The Wall Net, put up in 1994 by Panzerbataillon 164, which had taken part in demolishing the Wall in 1990, when Panzergrenadierbrigade 16 was disbanded.
