The record
A segment painted on one side by Lohberg kindergarten children and on the other by refugee children, set up on the Platz der Vielfalt on the former colliery site in April 2018.
RAG Montan Immobilien, the mining company's property arm that is redeveloping the Lohberg colliery as the Kreativ.Quartier, announced on 19 March 2018 that a painted piece of the Berlin Wall would be set up on the Platz der Vielfalt there on 20 April, during a children's festival. The two sides had been designed by children of the Lohberg kindergarten Sankt Marien and by refugee children from the transitional home An der Fliehburg, and the two designs were chosen by the auxiliary bishop of Xanten, Rolf Lohmann, and the North Rhine-Westphalian social minister Karl-Josef Laumann. The company initiated the project and ran it with the Caritasverband Dinslaken-Wesel and the Berlin association my Theo e.V.; it describes the piece as an image of understanding and union rather than a historical monument.
The Wall Net, a general reference writing in May 2018, records the segment in place on the square from April 2018, with a photograph credited to the Diocese of Münster, and reads the square as a meeting place for the different cultures of the former mining settlement. Where the segment came from in Berlin, and who owns it, is not said by either.
