The record

An original segment a local association set up as a memorial in Recklinghausen's Berliner Viertel, given an information board in October 2006.

The segment stands on Charlottenburger Straße in what Recklinghausen calls the Berliner Viertel, a housing quarter of the early 1960s between Stuckenbusch and Hochlarmark. The city's own account, in a brochure on the history of German democracy published in 2011, credits civic engagement and a Recklinghausen association with setting up the original fragment as a memorial and with giving it an information board in October 2006. The city archive's photograph collection files its pictures of the place under „Mahnmal Berliner Mauer, Charlottenburger Str.“.

Neither city source names the association or says when the segment arrived. The Wall Net, a tertiary list, describes the association as close to the CDU and says the segment came from a local recycling firm that had taken part in demolishing the Wall; nothing read here confirms either. The quarter is almost exactly as old as the Wall it now commemorates.

How did it get here?

Set up as a memorial by a Recklinghausen association, which added an information board in October 2006. When it arrived and where it came from are not stated by the city.
