The record
Two segments that two Bocholt residents fetched from Berlin and set down in front of the town hall in 1995; the city accepted them and marked them with an information sign in 2014.
The city's press office announced on 13 November 2014 that the two original segments on the Berliner Platz had stood in front of the town hall for nineteen years and now carried a new information sign, which names them a memorial to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and carries a QR code leading to more on the city's website. It credits Bernd Roßmöller and Christoph Schares with bringing the elements "from the Spree to the Aa" in 1995 and then giving them to the city, and its photograph shows the two with the former deputy head of cultural affairs, Reinhold Sprinz, at the new sign.
The Wall Net, a general reference, fills in the beginning: in March 1995 the two Bocholt men brought the segments on their own initiative and unloaded them in front of the town hall without permission, and they were soon accepted officially as a symbol of contemporary history. It adds that the badly weathered pair was given conservation treatment before the twenty-fifth anniversary of the fall of the Wall in 2014. Where in Berlin the two stood is not said by either source.
How did it get here?
Brought from Berlin to Bocholt in March 1995 by Bernd Roßmöller and Christoph Schares, who gave the two segments to the city; conserved before the 2014 anniversary, by The Wall Net's account.
