The record
An original segment made into an artwork by Stefan Strumbel and the graffiti artist Case, unveiled in May 2016 at Offenburg's Nordwest school centre.
The Offenburger Tageblatt announced in May 2016 that an original piece of the Berlin Wall, recently installed and provided by Sven Grathwohl, would be unveiled at the opening of the Festtag Nordwest, the celebration that closed the 'Soziale Stadt' programme in the Nordweststadt. It was unveiled there on 7 May 2016, in front of the Stadtteil- und Familienzentrum (SFZ) am Mühlbach on the grounds of the Schulzentrum Nordwest. For the occasion the Offenburg artist Stefan Strumbel and the East German-born graffiti artist Case had made an artwork of it, gold on one face and showing a hand on the other. The paper's report of the festival spells the donor Gratwohl and says the piece he gave would represent the motto 'Grenzen abbauen und gemeinsam etwas bewegen'.
In September 2016 the paper described a protest held at 'the piece of the Berlin Wall designed by Stefan Strumbel, between the Mensa and the Stadt- und Familienzentrum am Mühlbach', and said the town administration regarded it as a symbol of the Nordweststadt growing together. Nothing later has been read.
How did it get here?
Given ('gestiftet', in one report) or provided ('zur Verfügung gestellt', in another) by Sven Grathwohl, whose name the paper also spells Gratwohl; painted by Stefan Strumbel and Case in 2016.
