The record

A 3.5-tonne segment, shifted free of charge by a local contractor, outside a civil-defence museum in Friesland.

The Museum Bescherming Bevolking at Grou keeps a section of the Wall on its grounds, a museum of the Cold War and of civil defence. Its own website records one stage of the piece's life: it was moved from the car park to a new place at the museum by Loonbedrijf Sjoerd Nauta of Grou, who did the job with a heavy shovel and charged nothing, and the post gives the weight as 3.5 tonnes. It dates the move only as a Friday, 8 February, without a year, so it is not dated here.

Omrop Fryslân, reporting on the museum's exhibition for the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Wall in November 2019, says that various things connected with the Wall are to be found in and around the museum. Two directories of Dutch museums and Cold War sites also list the segment; one says that an original segment and a Trabant can be seen there all year round.

Nothing read here says where the segment came from, when it arrived or whether a ticket is needed to see it, and the museum's post does not either.

How did it get here?

Provenance has not been established. Movement history, ownership, and installation dates will be added only when supported by sources.
