The record

Three to four metres of painted concrete brought by the Academy's own institute, and said in 2025 still to stand in its courtyard.

A segment of the Wall was unveiled on 7 November 2019, thirty years after the Wall opened, at the Romanian Academy in Bucharest. The prime minister Ludovic Orban spoke, with the German ambassador Cord Meier-Klodt, Romania's ambassador to Germany Emil Hurezeanu and the former prime minister Petre Roman among those present. Orban said that artificial divisions and political errors were still part of the world, and that walls were now built not of concrete but of manipulation.

The Academy's Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations, named for Ion I. C. Brătianu, brought the piece to Romania. The press reports differ on its size: Mediafax gives about four metres and 3.5 tonnes, Digi24 three metres and three tonnes. They also differ on the setting, the Academy's park in one and its courtyard in the other.

In May 2025 Dan Dungaciu, who directed the institute at the time, told a talk show that the Academy had bought a genuine segment, which he gave as 4 tonnes and 3 metres, with the help of European companies, with a receipt and authentication. He had wanted it in a public square devoted to anti-communism, but the capital's authorities showed no interest, and he said it was still in the courtyard of the Academy, forgotten.

How did it get here?

Bought by the Romanian Academy's Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations, with the support of European companies, and brought to Bucharest for the thirtieth anniversary in 2019.
