The record
A twelve-foot slab lent by two Suwanee restaurateurs and shown outside the county justice centre in 2014. It has since gone back to Suwanee.
Gwinnett County put a section of the Wall on display in front of its Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville on 3 September 2014. It is twelve feet tall and weighs four tons, and the county describes graffiti of an American flag, people and buildings on the side that faced West Berlin. On 16 September the Board of Commissioners presented a proclamation to its owners, Ray Stanjevich and Suzanne Cartwright, who own Friends Suwanee Grill and had lent it. They had bought it at auction for $23,500 and had shown it before in front of Suwanee City Hall; the county quotes them as wanting to keep it local and to remind younger generations to appreciate the freedom Americans enjoy.
It did not stay. Patch reported in August 2018 that Suwanee's city council had accepted the slab as a donation, that it had spent several months in front of Suwanee City Hall and the justice centre, and that it was now in Town Center Park; the Suwanee record in this catalogue is the same piece. Patch dates the time at the justice centre to 2013, the county's own releases to 2014, and the county is followed here. Nothing read says when the loan ended, where in Berlin the slab stood or who painted it.
How did it get here?
Bought at auction in 2013 by the owners of Friends Suwanee Grill, lent to Gwinnett County in 2014 and later given to the City of Suwanee.
