Privately owned slabs of the Hinterlandmauer on a working wharf, with a damaged authentication plaque and graffiti that is probably not original.
Segments of roughly six by ten feet stand on the southern side of Long Wharf, near DiMillo's floating restaurant. They are recorded as pieces of the Hinterlandmauer — the inner wall, the one facing East Berlin, which was plain — and the painting on them is described in the source as the usual fabricated graffiti of peace and patriotism rather than original Berlin work. Together with the Fort Knox record this is one of two places in the catalogue where the concrete is accepted and the surface is not, which is worth stating because the surface is what almost every photograph is of.
How did it get here?
Owned by Antonio “Toni” DiMillo, who holds much of Portland's port frontage, and reported to have been in his hands since the late 1990s. A damaged authentication plaque stands with them.
