Berlin Wall pieces in Virginia
Virginia's five sites sit on both sides of the Potomac story. Freedom Park in Rosslyn is where the Newseum's dozen segments stood first, on an elevated park built on an unfinished motorway overpass; most went across the river when the museum moved and are now in storage in Maryland. At Langley three sections from near Checkpoint Charlie have stood beside the CIA's original headquarters building since 1992, oriented as they stood in Berlin, graffiti west and whitewash east, and set across the path so that staff must walk around them; the site is not open to the public. At Reston the Bundeswehr's American command keeps the segment the Luftwaffe flew over for its opening in 1991, from Waldemarstraße with traces of Thierry Noir still on it. The other two are a section at the state war museum in Newport News and a segment outside Alderman Library at the University of Virginia.

Each site says what its evidence rests on, from Listed to Confirmed, and whether the piece can be seen today; a listing in a source inventory is not a confirmation that anyone has seen it. The research methodology explains how claims are weighed.
