The piece stands on the square An der Riviera, a riverside stretch on the Rezat north of the old town, in front of the former Durchgangsschulhaus — once the royal agricultural winter school, now flats and businesses — and near the beer garden, the playground and the Bay-City bridge. The Bundesstiftung Aufarbeitung's memorials database records it as an original segment unveiled during the first German Unity Day celebrations on 3 October 1990, as a „Mahnmal gegen Unterdrückung“, with an inscription on the former eastern face written by the deputy mayor of the day, Wolfgang Wechsler; the inscription had faded by 2009 and was restored for the twentieth anniversary of the opening.

The city has gathered here on 3 October ever since. The mayor's 2021 speech, on the city's own site, opens with the tradition of meeting „am Berliner Mauerstück an der Riviera“ and admits the piece has become an often-overlooked part of the townscape; the Fränkische Landeszeitung reported the 2024 ceremony in the same place, and ran a feature that August on how Ansbach came by its piece, which is behind its paywall. Photographed in 2025, so this is among the more recently confirmed records in the catalogue — useful, because a listing tells you an object was somewhere once and a dated photograph tells you it was still there on a particular day.

Wie kam es hierher?

An original segment, unveiled by the city on 3 October 1990 with an inscription by the deputy mayor Wolfgang Wechsler; the Fränkische Landeszeitung's 2024 account of how Ansbach acquired it has not been read here.
