The segment stands on the Hallplatz, between the memorial to flight and expulsion and the Kartäusergasse with the columns of the Way of Human Rights, and the Bundesstiftung Aufarbeitung's memorials database explains why it is here rather than in Munich. It is the Bavarian element of the 2009 distribution in which Axel Springer AG gave a segment to every federal state for the twentieth anniversary of the opening. Most went to the state capital; Bavaria's went to Nuremberg as the city of peace and human rights, and as one where an unusually large number of expellees and refugees from the GDR had settled. The 2.7-tonne, 3.60-metre element was unveiled on 12 December 2009 by the federal defence minister of the day, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
The photograph confirms the object; the database places it. Until October 2026 this record could say only that the piece was somewhere in Nuremberg.
