The municipality's newsletter for November and December 2014 carried a report by its local heritage officer, Hans Bradl, on why there are pieces of the GDR's wall in Postbauer-Heng. The Gemeinde had decided to set up a memorial to the division of Germany and to its many citizens who had been expelled after the war from what became the GDR, from present-day Poland and from the Sudetenland. The pieces came free of charge through the haulage firm of Siegfried Dinkel, who had told Bradl, then mayor, that he could bring wall pieces back from Berlin if the municipality wished; they were delivered and stored, and from 2006 three wall pieces and a piece of original barbed wire stood opposite the Deutschordensschloss, visited several times by school classes.
The Wall Net, which describes them as parts of the hinterland wall, records the move: after the area around the Erich-Kästner-Schule was redesigned, the memorial was set up in July 2017 in the new school park on Hans-Bradl-Platz, the square named after the former mayor. At the opening of the new grounds and sports hall the mayor, Horst Kratzer, said it had found a place where it was more visible and would gain new weight in the school's history lessons. The Wall Net's photographs of both sites are credited to the Gemeinde.
